This is a model of a beam steam engine, invented by Thomas Newcomen in the early 18th century as a mine drainage engine, improved by James Watt, and used as a power source in the Industrial Revolution. It is extremely well-made, and I enjoyed assembling it. When it started to move, I felt a real sense of accomplishment. It was a moment when I felt the breath of the Industrial Revolution.
